History of the shipwreck

Two sport divers from Oeiras, Rodrigo B. Rocha de Araújo and Pedro M. S. Abrantes Duarte, reported in 1999 the existence of two iron guns in the area of the Oeiras oceanic swimming pools (Proc. CNANS 99/54). This find was verified in April 2000 by a CNANS team including Miguel Aleluia and Pedro Caleja.

In June of the same year, the construction of a marina in the area triggered a salvage operation, for which a private contractor was hired. A total of five iron guns were removed from the area where the east jetty was built and placed nearby.

Not much else is known about the vessel or vessels to which these guns belonged, and the source text states that no information is available about how the wreck was lost.
