The archaeology has timidly approached to the evidences of recent times despite the fact that in the last two centuries humanity has undergone important changes in its social and environmental dynamics. Such social behaviours and their relationship with the environment deserve to be studied through the associated material culture, considering the theoretical discussions have arisen in the world about the importance of understanding these social processes. From contemporary maritime archaeology, threats such as climate change and pollution are considered as hyperobjects associated with the Anthropocene and are described as real objects that are massively distributed in time and space, which are difficult to see or frame.
In this sense, the study of the Anthropocene record should focus on understanding the more recent Era characterized by the dynamics of hyper-consumption and the global integration of human appropriation of natural resources. Something that have led to the archaeological sites, among other components of the cultural landscapes, to be at constant risk of disappearing locally and globally. The main object of this project is to constitute and implement a conceptual, theoretical and methodological proposal in two coastal archaeological contexts in Cartagena de Indias oriented to identify, classify and characterize the material culture and the evidences of climate change and pollution. All this will allow a better understanding of the particular and controversial Anthropocene Era and their impacts on Maritime Cultural Heritage. The above, led to a growing interest in analyzing the effects on the preservation and integrity of coastal archaeological record.
