Introduction

The remains of a wooden ship were exposed in the 1970s or 1980s, during excavations to lay a pipe at Praça Gil Eanes, circa 140 m from the actual marina channel.

In the middle of the 20th century a large landfill pushed the city’s waterfront considerably forward, but Praça Gil Eanes was already behind the waterfront in the early 20th century.
